Transformational Patient-Centered Care

The Wondermous Healthcare Leadership Journey podcast recently featured Keith Pinter, CEO of AristaMD, to discuss how healthcare leadership must evolve to prioritize effectiveness over simple efficiency.

Keith shared his transition from the fast-paced technology sector to healthcare, driven by a desire to leave a legacy and solve meaningful problems. He observed that while healthcare consumes nearly one-fifth of the US GDP, the nation remains in the bottom third for global health outcomes.

“Leadership effectively, to me means doing things, the right things and doing them differently than how we’ve done them before.”

Restoring the PCP as the “Quarterback” of Care

The current healthcare ecosystem often prioritizes volume over value, resulting in high rates of unnecessary interventions. Statistics show that north of 70% of hospitalizations and 82% of ER visits are unnecessary because the system is not currently “compensating people to fix that”.

  • The Primary Care Solution: Value-based care offers an opportunity to “inspire and pay a clinician… on being the quarterback of all the care”.

  • Patient-Centricity: A core philosophy discussed is that “if we keep the patient at the center of things, a lot of problems solve for themselves”.

  • Breaking the Silos: Modern care often suffers from a lack of communication, where “patients may have a cardiovascular condition… then they’ve got a lung condition… and those people don’t really talk amongst each other”.

Solving the Specialty Access Crisis

AristaMD provides a solution for specialty care that integrates directly into the primary care physician’s existing electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Streamlining the Experience: “Instead of waiting six weeks to six months, my doc got me a televisit… it really is a trifecta: patient in the center, happy docs… and a lower cost of care”.

  • Removing Administrative Burdens: The platform addresses the fact that “happy docs and nurses… most of the time they’re not happy because of all the administrative stuff they gotta do”.

  • Evidence-Based Accuracy: The tool allows for “accuracy, timeliness of care, and patient experience” by providing specialists a full view of the patient’s information to make informed recommendations.
